Chris, that was a great idea, but could you make that an 800 number? I'd rather not dial long-distance/face long-distance phone bill charges.

Post 2 by Don'tBlaisMeBro (Folle et simple est la brebis qui au loup se confesse.) on Sunday, 28-Jan-2007 21:33:14

Regarding a 1-800 nnumber, won't that charge major for JJ and/or whom ever purchases it? I think they did the number for a reason, it's probably a fixed-rate.

Post 3 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Sunday, 28-Jan-2007 21:46:38

Ok so could have a recorded profile, can u soon be able to do other hings?

Post 4 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 28-Jan-2007 23:34:57

Come on guys. An 800 number too? I think that's a bit much. Especially if there are other features added. There are cheap ways to call this number. Examples include oneSuite.com whare its only $0.02 to call anywhare in the US or canada weather you use a local number or there toal-free one. Skype (though if you are going to use skype then why not just use a sound recording program to do your audio profile?) Calling card from AT&T also costs $0.02 per minute gotten from Sams Club . Cell phones (nights after 9 for most, 7 for others.) and on weekends. Your unlimited long distance on your landline (if you have it.)
John

Post 5 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Monday, 29-Jan-2007 0:45:48

This is a cool idea! I love it! Then I would be able to record my audio profile without using the computer or having to buy a microphone! Thanks everyone! Besides we have free long distance! So thanks guys!

Post 6 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 29-Jan-2007 20:31:11

This now has a teleconference.

Post 7 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 0:09:26

Cris, We've suggested voice mail for premiums in the past, is this maybe a possibility with this feature?

Post 8 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 10:25:45

gosh, i'd have to get skype out for this, though i guess it isn't just u k based, so would make more sense to have this kind of stuff as a u s number.

Post 9 by de chipmunk (I'll try being nicer, if you try being smarter) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 10:29:29

gosh, does someone have to bitch about everything? i think it would be more difficult to set up an 800 number cant we appreciate what we get? things take time ya know?

Post 10 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 11:05:37

I'd say voicemail is a definite possibility. If someone wants to do the research and find a provider of inexpensive or free UK DiDs (direct in dial) numbers that can be used for SIP termination, let me know. I'm almost totally sure they're out there.

Post 11 by jessmonsilva (Taking over the boards, one topic at a time.) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 11:46:09

Go chris! You always seem to find something new to ad to the site, so good job!

Post 12 by Ukulele<3 (Try me... You know you want to.) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 13:05:03

Oh wow. I like the voicemail idea. lol I was thinking along those lines as well when I checked it out yesterday. It's awesome.

Michelle

Post 13 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 13:50:14

Voicemail, now how would that work, you could record a message so people could leave voicemail for you? Then what. You'd have the option of listening to them on the zone, receiving them via e-mail, or calling the number to retreve them? Is that the idea, Kevven?

Post 14 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 23:04:05

I'm happy to see that new add ons are geared to the blind. Much better then pictures and visual things. Let the zone stay blind and the sight join us for a change. Good job.

Post 15 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2007 23:50:20

Well I recorded my profile! It is short for now! I love the system! It is cool and the guy who tells you the main minus and stuff sounds really nice! Hope

Post 16 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2007 7:29:17

for the record, i wasn't bitching. in fact, i was saying it'd make more sense to stay u s based, so, yeah.

Post 17 by BaritoneAu (Regular Zoner) on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2007 10:55:58

Hello, I too have just recorded an audio profile using the by phone system; I think it's cool.

If I'm happy to wear the cost of calls from Australia, what are some of you whinging about.

I hope to speak with some of you in the teleconference. Meanwile, although my audio profile doesn't say much, you can listen to and enjoy my voice; we're all vain about something.

Post 18 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2007 13:46:49

The Zone by Phone thing is awesome! Way to go JJ and Chris. I'm glad to see that not everyone is clamoring for an 800 number. Almost any phone plan can have unlimited long distance, cell phones, Skype, and countless other possibilities that make an 800 number totally unnecessary.

JJ and Chris, you guys rock! I was finally able to record an audio profile this morning, and I love the teleconference feature. Keep up the awesome work!

Post 19 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2007 17:28:13

Cris, as you have the ability from the qn box to see who logs into the zone by phone system, would it be possible to have those people listed somewhere on the site a little like vt, so that if there was a conference we could see who is present and so make it easier to decide if to join? You could put it behind a link, or include it in a separate table on the who's logged in page here, but think it could be a good idea.

Post 20 by Rowdyamerican (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2007 17:34:42

I think blackbird has an awesome idea. It would be awesome if you were able to find out, who was in the conference.

Earle

Post 21 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Wednesday, 31-Jan-2007 17:44:25

Yeah, I like that idea too, Kev. I have reservations about using VT but might try a conference.

Post 22 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 9:42:52

Yeah I like that idea also, Kev.

Post 23 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 10:16:49

That will be coming soon. I'm in the process of rewriting the Zone by Phone code to improve stability and make it easier to create new things. and FYI JJ hasn't actually called it yet. lol

Post 24 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 10:23:46

Cris, something else noticeable. you can't even hear most people who said their name, and they may well not have done. could it be worked somewhere that they have an option to rerecord? I went on last night, and with 6 people on, there was only 2 names audible, and 1 of those was mine.

Post 25 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 12:17:21

I've been in Washington so can't take credit for this one. This is all Chris at the moment, and an awesome feature at that.

Post 26 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 16:55:22

Kev that is a cool idea! Your idea rocks! I noticed the same thing when I called last night! In fact I couldn't hear any of the names including mine!

Post 27 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 17:27:28

hey people let's use this teleconference, and maybe use the scheduling of conferences so we know when people will be there. I set one up on the conference option. So go check it out

Post 28 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 19:50:49

Hey I love this idea! I really like playing around with this thing. So do we get to do things like play games on this like we do when online? I'm really into this thing.

Post 29 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 19:56:10

By the way I have no proble with calling a 218 number my cell works real good for that since my regular phone takes no long distance.

Post 30 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 20:05:15

hello to make free long distants calls just dial the h800 line. its not exactly legal, but it is free. sorry. lol.

Post 31 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 20:06:41

maybe a grafetti style board.

Post 32 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 01-Feb-2007 21:28:27

What is the h800 line ?

Post 33 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Friday, 02-Feb-2007 13:50:50

I'm not really into using my phone for much more than talking. If they do make it possible to play games and such by phone, I think I'll just stick to doing that with my computer. But I still like the conference call idea and the ability to make an audio profile by phone.

Post 34 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Saturday, 03-Feb-2007 1:36:19

Cris, can we please have rid of that obnoxious noise that we get when everyone logs into the phone system? it's the most intrusive zone noise of all, and is so frequent that we're all getting pissed at it.

Post 35 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Saturday, 03-Feb-2007 1:41:44

i do agree with blackbird on this. what would be good is a list of people logged in by phone. I don't mean to complain but that would be cool. Also, can you make it to where you we can edit our recorded names? that would be good as well.

Post 36 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Saturday, 03-Feb-2007 4:48:52

Chris the man in the main minu kept enterupting me when I was updating my audio profile! He only gave me a few seconds to speak lol! How do I correct this? I got up the nerve to use the teleconference thing! I spoke to a lady from South Africa I think! Any way she could speak Zulu and she knew a lot about the country! I had to go caus my sister needed to use the phone! Who ever she is I'd like to thank her for talking to me! Caus I'm really shy! I like the phone sound thing through the Zone! Hope

Post 37 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 0:32:44

Yeah. The man in the menu is pretty annoying. but anyway, it's because the system thinks you're finished speaking when you aren't. Try speaking more loudly.

Post 38 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 11:50:03

The Man in the menu isn't as annoying as the eubiquidous Alison Smith. I think, however, that both sets of prompts need to be trimmed a little bit to be a little snappier.

Post 39 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 12:05:03

Well, it looks like they have a little bit. However, I think we should be able to do "who's where" before logging in, and we also still have to lose Alison Smith and now, Festival.

Post 40 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 12:48:13

ya. Chris's making some improvements. Be patient. I'm sure he realizes many of the things mentioned here.

Post 41 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 12:56:18

who is alison smith?

Post 42 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 13:34:05

It must be the voice saying the number of users logged in. It is a synthetick one i think or something. The rest of the prompts are recorded by Chris. I tried calling the zone by phone but it must be very expensive with o2. For just 30 seconds i lost 2 pounds lol. But i think it is a very good feature.

Post 43 by Rune Knight (Ancient Demon - Darkness will always conquer Light!) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 13:38:39

Yeah I had that same problem Hope, twas why my Audio Profile wasn't to long. I got what I wanted to put on it after a couple of tries though.

Post 44 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 13:54:59

Skype's probably the best bet from the UK for the moment.

Post 45 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Sunday, 04-Feb-2007 16:20:00

Actually, i need to contact Chris about that. I haveno idea if what I found might actually work, but I may have found a DiT rpvider from the UK.

Post 46 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Monday, 05-Feb-2007 5:06:57

Here's another thing to add to the mix of things that can be improved on. I would like if there was a way to stop the who is where option. At present, there is no way to interupt this option. It also seems inaccurate since I logged in earlier and there were supposibly 5 or 6 people in the conference, but I was disappointed to find that no one was there upon arrival. Great feature Chris!

Post 47 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Monday, 05-Feb-2007 13:14:06

Subject: Ever-growing "who's where" list

Looks like we still have a problem with the phone system realizing when folks have hung up. When last I was on the system, I heard what sounded like the list of all who had ever joined the conference in the past 12 hours or so. I didn't notice whether the super-long list also included those who had logged in but not joined the conference durring the session.

Keep up the good work,

Dave wx1g

Post 48 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 05-Feb-2007 13:47:27

Yes. It currently has issues in determining when someone has hung up, mostly when it happens during conference. I've asked around and hope to here something soon.

Post 49 by crimson x (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 05-Feb-2007 19:17:57

if you press pound then hang up it usually works.

Post 50 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Monday, 05-Feb-2007 20:44:06

Well, there's your workaround, people. Exit properly (press # to leave the conference, then 0 to exit. Hahaha.

Dave wx1g

Post 51 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 06-Feb-2007 0:13:13

It should work now in all cases.

Post 52 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 08-Mar-2007 14:21:20

To those in the UK, has anyone used the phone number we have for your country? Any thoughts? To everyone else, any suggestions on where we might place additional numbers? We're more likely to put numbers in countries which lack them than we are to place additional numbers in a country which as one, unless it's very expensive for members of a country to call an existing number.

Post 53 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Thursday, 08-Mar-2007 18:35:51

Chris, I've tried the UK number from both my landline, and my mobile phones, and it can't seem to accept my zone ID number. I also tried the American numbr to see if it was my phones, and that worked fine. so there appears to be a problem.

Post 54 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 21:57:07

Hi.
The voice mail sistem is very interesting.
However the UK number seams to have problems.
When i call it it keeps telling me to enter my zone ID but the sistem doesn't seam to listen to the buttons i press so it keeps saying the same thing over and over again.
I tried the USA number and it worked fine.

Post 55 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 22:00:35

Sorry i should read before posting lol.
But anyway the problem still is there.

Post 56 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 22:58:32

Thanks. We'll look into this.

Post 57 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 23:02:57

Nikos, do you know if the tones that are used to dial digits are different in the UK?

Post 58 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Thursday, 22-Mar-2007 7:06:32

I don't think they are different because when i use the USA number i use exactly the same phone and it works. I use my nokia 6630 if this can help.

I also have got some questions about the voice mail.
If we get a new message are we going to be notify in anyway either by email or quicknote or do we have to keep checking the phone sistem?
Also is there a way of listening to messages online?
When i looked yesterday to the voicemail it doesn't seam to be a way to record a personal greeting so it would be good if we could do that.

Very good feature.

Post 59 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 02-Apr-2007 18:01:12

Does anyone know if the UK number is working at all? I need to figure out whether or not to renew it or find a new one.

Post 60 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Monday, 02-Apr-2007 18:11:27

J, unless something has been done to it since i last tried then no. I tried with both my landline and my mobile. it just wouldn't accept the key tones.

Post 61 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Monday, 02-Apr-2007 18:24:34

I just tried it and it didn't work for me either. It keeps telling me to enter my Zone BBS ID number.

Post 62 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Thursday, 05-Apr-2007 12:28:52

It works fine now. Thanks J.

Post 63 by Casey Bear (Newborn Zoner) on Thursday, 05-Apr-2007 20:52:29

I would love for voicemail to be for all members and not just for premium.

Post 64 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 05-Apr-2007 20:55:51

Yeah, and while you're at it, could you make QN history accessible to everyone? And maybe the premium anagram, too. And custom logins/outs.

Post 65 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Thursday, 05-Apr-2007 20:59:53

It can't be free. This service costs money for the site to set up and for the different numbers around the world. I am sure people would complain if it was free but we had to hear one minute of adverts at the beginning of the call without a way to skeep them. So think what is better.

Post 66 by Char (The sexy canadian) on Thursday, 05-Apr-2007 21:02:50

Hello,

I've noticed in the voice mail section of Zone By Phone that there isn't a way to reply to voice mails. Instead, the person has to retype the person's user i.d number and record a fresh message. Is there any way that a reply feature could be added?

Charlene

Post 67 by Casey Bear (Newborn Zoner) on Monday, 09-Apr-2007 4:21:03

I never thought of that really. I can understand, though, that the reply feature should be an option. If it is, it is, but if not, it's not going to kill me.

Post 68 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 14-Apr-2007 13:33:44

The reply feature wasn't there because, when I made voicemail, I apparently didn't think of it. I quickly realized that having to remember ID numbers really sucks. Anyway, now you can reply after listening to a message. I've also changed it so that a message is marked as saved after it is heard once.

Post 69 by TylerK (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 15-Apr-2007 13:28:21

QN history should stay premium, Chelsea. If anyone wants it that badly, pay for it. That's been said so many times, it's crazy.

Post 70 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 19-Apr-2007 1:04:22

Chelsletta was being verry, verry sarcastic. I'm 99% sure of that.
